10 in 10 with G3 Sales & Marketing Director Roger Evans

At The Yorkshire Times they like to put a regional business professional in the hot seat and give them 10 minutes to answer our 10 burning questions. In their recent edition Roger Evans G3 Sales and Marketing Director at Leeds G3 Remarketing tackles their questions.

What does a typical working day for you involve?

On auction days I meet our vendors and buyers, and closely monitor the sale performance numbers in order to understand the key trends. We believe this proactive approach is very important to stand out from our competitors. Throughout the rest of the week, I travel around the country to visit our clients and the many partners we work with.

The G3 team also regularly come together to share ideas and insights from the marketplace, to ensure we are up-to-date with new developments in our fast-paced industry.

What makes your company special?

The founders have built G3 with a keen eye on what customers want. Efficiency and cost control are central to how we work, which means we’re able to charge much lower fees than our competitors – a very important draw for our car buyers.

We are entrepreneurial and ambitious, meaning we won’t ever settle for second best. Whilst being alert to the constantly changing industry, homing in on what drives sales and boosts customer retention is at the forefront of the business – and is something I believe really makes us stand out from the crowd.

Do you have any business rules that you swear by?

To be passionate in what you do every day – after all, you spend a significant amount of your life in work, so you have to enjoy it. Also, to never stop learning and assume nothing…

Do you dress up or down for work?

I usually wear a suit, but rarely a tie these days. We have a large range of customers, so I try to anticipate who I’ll be meeting and dress accordingly.

What piece of advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?

Be nice to everyone you meet, never burn your bridges and make a conscious effort to stay in touch with people. Make a list of skills others have and you want to emulate, and don’t be afraid to ask for help – even when you think you know everything!

What’s your favourite Yorkshire venue for an event or team away day?

It has to be Craft House in Leeds. The full glass restaurant space is very impressive and is a great area for hosting an event. The food and drinks are also amazing, so you can’t go wrong with this venue!

How do you prefer to travel for business?

On a sedan chair…

What’s your favourite place in Yorkshire to relax?

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden in North Yorkshire. I could get lost all day strolling around the ponds and grounds!

Where is your favourite place to eat in Yorkshire, and what dish do you recommend?

The Black Swan at Olstead – it was voted one of the best restaurants in the WORLD, and rightly so! I can’t image them producing a bad dish, so I would highly recommend anything and everything from the menu.

What do you miss most about Yorkshire when you are away?

The miles and miles of untouched, beautiful countryside. I could never get fed up of looking at the views – they are simply breath-taking.
